"Who does these things when we're too lazy, too bloated on food and generous
portions of our own gargantuan egos? Who debugs the massive computer control
center because our own enfeebled brains can barely add fractions? Who
provids the warm, inviting water in which you bathe your filthy, oil-stained
carcass? Who goes on mind-bendingly dangerous missions outside in the cold,
black void of unforgiving space while you sit inside, cozy as Alistair
Cooke, sipping cocoa and watching Tiny Toons? ... Who periodically changes
the plutonium rods in the nuclear reactor deep in the bowels of the ship,
while you feast on gooey handfuls of Fiddle-Faddle and play hopscotch..."

Appreciating Gypsy
Once upon a time, I set out to find a picture of Gypsy on the net. I found
a number of sizable archives, and there were countless pictures of Joel,
Mike, Tom, Crow, the Mads, and all the funnest moments we cherish... but
Gypsy? One picture. One single, solitary picture! And a JPEG, to boot!
Well, Gypsy is my favorite 'bot-- there, I said it!-- and she deserves an
entertaining and informative Web page. Until some hot Web designer takes
notice, you'll have to make do with this.
Fun facts about Gypsy
- Gypsy controls the higher functions of the Satellite of Love. This
uses up 99% of her computing power, making her appear slow when interacting
with others. When her system load is reduced, she can keep up in a
conversation. [Wild Rebels and other eps]
- Gypsy is a notary. [Indestructible Man]
- Gypsy is a faithful fan of Richard
Basehart. [numerous episodes]
- When Gypsy's brain was X-rayed, it was found to contain an 8x10 of
Richard Basehart and some RAM chips. [Untamed Youth]
- Gypsy keeps a diary, which is harder to break into than Fort Knox.
According to the
USENET FAQ, Gypsy is constructed from:
- An Eveready flashlight, minus the hood (eye)
- "Century Infant Love Seat" from Century Products, Inc. (head)
- Foam tubing (lips)
- Black hose "drain tile" (neck)
- Infinite perserverance. Go, girl!
Gypsy is operated and voiced by Jim Mallon,
who is also the producer and one of the writers for MST3K. He is the
only cast member left from the pre-Comedy Central era.
